What is Organic Day
Organic Day is a nationwide event where families visit organic farms to witness the moment when cows are let out for the first time after winter.
The highlight of the day happens at noon, when the barn doors open, and the cows rush into the fields. With their tails high, they jump, spin, and kick in excitement – a clear sign of their well-being.
Booking your participation
Booking is needed and opens 6th March 2026 - please go to Økodag.dk (Danish version).
From mid-April to November, all organic cows in Denmark graze freely in the fields, enjoying fresh air and green grass every day. Organic farmers prioritize animal welfare, and each year in April, they mark the transition from winter housing to open pastures with Organic Day – a long-standing tradition that brings farmers and consumers closer together.
On Organic Day, farms across Denmark open their gates to visitors from 10 AM to 2 PM.
At 12 PM sharp, the barn doors swing open. As eager cows leap, run, and kick their heels into the air, visitors cheer them on in celebration of organic farming and high animal welfare standards.
The first Organic Day was held in 2005 with 10,000 visitors. Today, more than 2 million Danes have participated in this unique event.
Please note that you are not allowed to visit a farm in Denmark if you have been outside Denmark within the last 48 hours, as you can bring animal diseases to Denmark.
